Barlavento L.L.C., Dothan, Ala., received a $1.3 million contract to expand the command post here.

The 11-month expansion project, which began June 19, will benefit the base by consolidating command and control functions, especially during hurricanes. The command post building will increase from 5,700 square feet to 9,500 square feet.
"The main functions inside the existing facility will be moving into the new addition and the space currently occupied will become the new location for the survival recovery center," said 1st Lt. Rick Vermillion, 16th Civil Engineer Squadron. "With the Survival Recovery Center co-located with battle staff, maintenance operations control center and the command post, essential information will be able to flow faster up the chain of command."

This enhanced information process will help to inform the base populace about decisions that are being made at a much quicker pace than before, he said.
The project is slated for completion on May 7, 2007.
