Eight runs in the sixth inning were enough to push the combined team of 16th Contracting Squadron/23rd Special Tactics Squadron one run past the 16th Civil Engineer Squadron July 20.

The last ditch combined effort of CONS/STS in the sixth inning lead to a dramatic finish, winning the game.

Elliot Lewis, CES’s “secret weapon,” scored four runs in two innings, which gave CES a 12-8 advantage coming out of the fifth inning.

“Our team played great defensively,” said Lewis during the top of the fifth inning. “Hopefully, we will win the game and make it the playoffs.”

Unfortunately, that false sense of hope fell onto deaf ears.

Coming into the sixth inning, CONS/ STS were trailing by five points.

However, that didn’t last for long. The hitters for CONS/STS switched from hitting pop flies to hitting line drives and grounders, which tightened the lead with CES.

“We were down seven runs in the sixth inning, but we made a comeback,” said the CONS/STS Coach C.J. Dalton. “I knew that we could do it.”

“It’s like we were on fire,” said Russ Kneen, CONS/STS. “We got six base hits in the last inning and we pulled out the win. The CES pitcher change made all of the difference. It caught them off guard and changed the timing, which contributed to the win.”

“We had the game won,” said Chris Ramsey, CES assistant coach. “But, they really started hitting the ball and they beat us.”

CONS/STS finished the regular season with a 9-8 record, while CES’s ended with a 9-10 record.
