Boy Scouts from Troop 509 posted the colors during a proclamation-signing ceremony delegating April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Month of the Military Child at the community park here April 2.

Airmen and children waved American flags and blue pinwheels during the ceremony in recognition of military children and the National Blue Ribbon campaign to prevent child abuse.

Col. William West, 1st Special Operations Wing commander, spoke to the audience as he signed the proclamation.

West told the children that their strength and resiliency adds to the support of our military readiness.

"I encourage everyone to thank our military children," he said. "Let them know their sacrifices are appreciated."

Military children face many challenges such as moving frequently, changing schools, making new friends and deploying parents.

The Commando Agencies Reaching Everyone has special events planned throughout April for the Month of the Military Child and Child Abuse Prevention Month on Hurlburt Field. For more information regarding these events, contact Family Advocacy at (850) 881-5061.
