4/24/2013 - HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- Air Force Military Tuition Assistance officially restarted for the continuation of the 2013 fiscal year, April 10.

On March 11, Chief Master Sgt. James Cody sent out an Air Force-wide letter informing and explaining the suspension of the program, which stated, "Effective 1700 EST, 11 March, active duty Airmen will no longer be able to submit requests for Tuition Assistance."

According to the Air Force Virtual Education Center, education centers will process military tuition assistance requests using the same policies and procedures in place prior to its suspension with a few exceptions. Retroactive tuition assistance requests for courses taken during the suspension period and for which students used any other funding source will not be considered and military tution assistance requests in the system prior to suspension and subsequently approved will be honored.

With the program back, Airmen can now utilize the program that made higher education affordable for countless military members. Staff Sgt. Esayiyas Mulat, a mobility supervisor from the 823rd RED HORSE Squadron, has benefitted from such educational benefits in the past.

"Tuition Assistance is a great program." said Mulat, "It gives enlisted personnel a good way of pursuing their education."

Although the program has been reinstated, it may not be around forever.

"Tuition assistance may not come back next year." said Mulat, "So it is essential for enlisted personnel to take use it while it's still available."
