Office of the Staff Judge Advocate

The Office of the Staff Judge Advocate provides legal support to the 1st Special Operations Wing and Hurlburt Field's partner commands over a broad range of legal areas, including military justice, adverse administrative actions, environmental Law, labor law, contract law, civil law, and installation law.

 

Judge Advocates in the legal office provide legal assistance to active-duty, reserve component members on orders or pending deployment, and retired military members and their eligible dependents with valid military identification cards. This assistance includes wills, powers of attorney, and other civil legal matters such as landlord/tenant, domestic, and consumer affairs issues.

 

The legal office provides legal assistance, wills, notary public, and powers of attorney.  Please call (850) 884-7821 for further information or to schedule an appointment.  As these hours are subject to change, please call the office to obtain current hours. The legal office is located in Building 90210, second floor, Room 255.  All services are free of charge. 

Legal assistance (not including Wills) by appointment only on Mondays from 1:00pm through 3:00pm. Wills by appointment only on Wednesdays at 1:00pm through 3:00pm and Thursdays from 8:00am through 10:00am. We provide notary public and power of attorney services on a walk-in basis: Monday and Friday: 9:00am through 4:00pm; Tuesday and Thursday: 7:30am through 4:00pm, and Wednesday: 8:00am through 4:00pm. Our office is closed each day from 12:00pm through 1:00pm for lunch.

 

Prior to attending walk-in hours for powers of attorney or before scheduling a will appointment, customers must complete the respective worksheets at https://aflegalassistance.law.af.mil.  At the Legal Assistance webpage, select "Legal Worksheets." Please select the appropriate link and follow prompts. Once the form is completed, the website provides a ticket number.  Please call the legal office with the ticket number before visiting.  In addition, its recommend that customers print the worksheet for their visit.

 

Claims involving loss or damage during household goods shipment or to privately owned vehicles, loss or damages to property in storage at government expense, and loss or damage to personal property located in government quarters are now processed by the Air Force Claims Service Center (AFCSC) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. This process enables Air Force employees to file claims online and electronically submit required documents to the AFCSC.  Personnel can process their claim and file their DD Form 1840/1840R by accessing the AFCSC website at https://claims.jag.af.mil.  As a reminder, the DD Form 1840/1840R must be filed within 70 days after delivery. The AFCSC can be reached at 1-877-754-1212.

 

The legal office is still responsible for processing motor vehicle accidents (a government owned vehicle hitting a privately owned vehicle) and personal injury-type claims.
