Emblem Significance: Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are the Air Force colors. Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The globe indicates the world-wide reach of the unit. The division of the globe into night and day hemispheres depicts service at all hours. The dagger represents the Air Force Special Operations Command. The Greek cross, also known as the “crux immissa quadrata,” represents urgent medical care. The cross combined with the dagger signifies medical support of the military units. The serpent entwined around the dagger is a reference to the Rod of Aesculapius, the ancient Greek symbol associated with the healing aspect of the medical arts. The motto, “DEFENDO SALUS AD VITAM” means “Defending Health for Life."
