The 10th Combat Weather Squadron has won the right to call themselves the most Outstanding Battlefield Weather Squadron of 2006.

The 10th had an incredible year in 2006, logging more than 8,800 deployed man days, resulting in a pronounced effect on the battlefield.

When asked about the importance of their job, Lt. Col. Stephen Rose, 10th CWS commander said, "The very nature of special operations forces pits not only national treasure and blood against the enemy, but a capability that the nation cannot afford to lose."

The mission at the 10th CWS is to train, equip and employ special operations weather teams to conduct meteorological, oceanographic and space environmental operations with U.S. Army Special Operation Command's 75th Ranger Regiment, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment and five special forces groups in response to Presidential and Secretary of Defense taskings.

Combat weather also performs tactical infiltration, environmental reconnaissance, data collection, analysis, forecasting and flight briefings.

"It's humbling to be recognized for the efforts and heroism of my Special Operations Weather Team warriors," Colonel Rose said.

"Throughout the Global War on Terrorism, they have been giving it their all. I couldn't be more proud and honored to be in the company of these fine Airmen."
