The Family Advocacy Program builds healthy communities by providing programs designed to educate Airmen about the prevention and treatment of child and partner abuse. The FAP is comprised of three main components: Prevention, Maltreatment education and Research and Evaluation.

The Prevention/Outreach program coordinates and implements primary and secondary prevention services that include education and psychosocial skills training, advocacy, collaboration, community intervention, referral to community resources, and marketing.

The Maltreatment services provide comprehensive family assessment, intervention, and case management to all eligible beneficiaries where there is an alleged incident of family maltreatment.

The FAP also sponsors targeted and system-wide research and evaluation of prevention and intervention services. The Central Registry staff maintains a database on family maltreatment cases and statistical reports are generated to assess trends, respond to OSD, DoD, AF senior leaders, and provide opportunities for process outcome and compliance improvement.

The Drug Demand Reduction program:

• Maintains the health and wellness of a fit and ready fighting force and a drug-free Air Force community.
• Deters military members, including those members on initial entry on active duty after enlistment or appointment, from abusing illegal drugs and other illicit substances.
• Assists commanders in assessing the security, military fitness, readiness, and the good order and discipline of their commands.
• Detects and identifies individuals who use and abuse illegal drugs and other illicit substances. DDR manages the Military Drug Testing Program and provides drug use education and prevention.

Mental Health provides psychological assessment, psychotherapy, medication management and consulting services to active duty personnel as well as psychological consultation and training.

The Traumatic Stress Response Team is a service overseen by mental health. This team is comprised of mental health providers, chaplains and Airmen & Family Readiness center staff. The purpose of this team is to enhance resilience in individuals and groups who are, or may be exposed to, potentially traumatic events. 

Special Needs Identification and Assignment Coordination evaluates medical and educational needs of family members in order to advise families and the Air Force Personnel Center on the appropriateness of family member travel.

SNIAC transmits information to the gaining base about education and medical needs of all family members planning to move at government expense. These needs include any type of specialized medical care, medication, equipment, or any early intervention/related services required for a child that is specified on an Individualized Family Service Plan or Individual Education Program.

The Alcohol & Drug Prevention and Treatment program:

• Promotes readiness and health and wellness through the prevention and treatment of substance abuse.
• Minimizes the negative consequences of substance abuse to the individual, family and organization.
• Provides comprehensive education and treatment to individuals who experience problems attributed to substance abuse.
• Returns identified substance abusers to unrestricted duty status or to assist them in their transition to civilian life, as appropriate.
