Those who have been to the base exchange and commissary here lately may have noticed what resembles a bus stop and wondered, "Where's the bus?"

Although there is no official shuttle service offered at Hurburt Field, the Share a Ride program gives everyone the chance to apply the Wingman Concept if there's a need.

"During the holidays, weekends and exercises, the Riptide dining and fitness facility are routinely closed, so Airmen who reside in the east dorms have to travel to the Reef and Aderholt Fitness Center," said Master Sgt. Guy Harrison, 801st Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron first sergeant. "This is also true for dorm residents on the west side of base needing access to the [exchange] and Commissary."

The Share a Ride stations aren't designed to be drop off locations, just pickup locations to announce the need for a ride. Those with cars are highly encouraged to help Airmen in need if passing by one of the stations at the shopette, exchange/Commissary, and dorms.

"I hope people get involved and help fellow Airman out," Harrison said. "I am told this works at other bases."
