1st Special Operations Security Forces Squadron

Mission
"Hammerheads…Hold The Line!” The battle cry of the 1st Special Operations Security Forces Squadron reflects their enduring worldwide mission--providing dynamic force protection capabilities for special operations. Approximately 270 security forces members provide physical security, circulation control, armed force protection response and police services to Hurlburt Field. Additionally, the 1 SOSFS Hammerheads deploy around the globe to defend DoD, SOCOM and AFSOC assets as mission enablers in support of 1st Special Operations Wing and United States Special Operations Command missions. 1 SOSFS drives readiness and force generated lethal capabilities by operating one of the busiest small arms ranges in the U.S. Air Force, providing small arms/light weapons training to Hurlburt Field, Eglin AFB, and Duke Field.

Lineage
Constituted 1016th Guard Squadron on 27 Jul 1942. Activated on 14 Aug 1942. Disbanded on 31 Mar 1944. Reconstituted, and redesignated 16th Security Police Squadron on 31 Jul 1985. Consolidated (1 Oct 1993) with the 1st Special Operations Security Police Squadron, which was constituted on 23 Feb 1993. Activated on 24 Mar 1993. Redesignated: 16th Security Police Squadron on 1 Oct 1993; 16th Security Forces Squadron on 1 Jul 1997; 1st Special Operations Security Forces Squadron, 16 Nov 2006.

Emblem Significance
Blue represents the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow signifies the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The white winged dagger depicts the prime wartime function of the Security Forces, air base ground defense. The charge also represents the unit's historical association with Special Operations. The yellow lightning bolts symbolize the dual functions of home station and deployed locations service to the parent organization. The olive branch denotes the peacekeeping function of all Security Forces.
