The 1st Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron began construction on more than $24 million worth of contracts helping to improve Hurlburt Field facilities throughout fiscal year 2012.

The new construction projects include everything from street lights and dorm repairs to the installation of water towers and storage tanks.

"We have a lot of work that we are going to be doing on the taxiway," said Capt. Justin Osgood, acting programs flight chief for the 1st SOCES. "A lot of the base populace won't necessarily be noticing it unless their maintenance or operations but that was a big deal for us because our mission is out on the flight line."

Among the noticeable changes to Hurlburt during the upcoming months will be the addition of two outdoor fitness facilities. The covered exercise pads, located at both the Aderholt and Riptide Fitness Centers, will provide additional locations for Airmen to exercise during unfavorable weather conditions.

According to the 1st SOCES, some of these projects may impact individual's daily lives requiring both pedestrians and drivers to be mindful of their surroundings when near construction sites.
