Team Hurlburt gathered together to remember Operation Eagle Claw at a memorial ceremony June 23, and pay tribute to the five Air Commandos assigned to the 8th Special Operations Squadron and three Marines who lost their lives during the mission.

Maj. Ryan Mittelstet, Maj. Brett Cassidy and Tech. Sgt. Christopher Nin were awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross during a ceremony at Hurlburt Field, Fla., April 21, 2017. While assigned to the 8th Expeditionary Special Operations Squadron, Mittelstet, Cassidy and Nin were onboard a CV-22 Osprey conducting a mission to evacuate American citizens during a civil war in Africa. Special Operations flight surgeon earns second set of wings
For Capt. Matt Stein, earning his pilot wings from the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training program was not the first time he donned a set of wings. Prior to arriving for Undergraduate Pilot Training at ENJJPT, Stein was a Special Operations Forces Medical Element flight surgeon for the 1st Special Operations Wing, Hurlburt Field, Florida.
