Fueling Hurlburt Field: New pier accepts first barge
Airmen from the 1st Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron secure a protective boom to an anchoring point next to the fuel pier on Hurlburt Field March 6. In case of a fuel leak the boom would contain the spill preventing damage to protected wetlands on Santa Rosa Sound. The newly constructed, $5.3 million fuel pier accepted its first barge March 6. The fuel pier pumps fuel to Hurlburt Field through an underground pipe, which will greatly increase the efficiency of delivering fuel to the base. The old fuel pier was destroyed during Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Jason Epley)
