1st Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron changes command

Lieutenant Col. Kirk W. Peterson relinquished command of 1st Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron to Maj. Timothy D. Voruz during a change of command ceremony here, June 13.

"I have truly been blessed to be your commander and to serve with each and every one of you," Peterson said. "I can honestly say in the last two years we have supported the fight--and we have won!"

Peterson's next assignment will be as deputy commander of the 86th Logistics Readiness Group on Ramstein Air Base, Germany.

The 1st SOLRS is comprised of eight flights providing support to the 1st Special Operations Wing and associate units by meeting a full spectrum of logistic needs through the supply of material and fuels, expert management and maintenance of the vehicle fleet and more.

Voruz enlisted in the Air Force in 1991. After serving five years, he applied and was accepted to the Professional Officer Course ROTC program. He earned his Bachelor of Arts with honors from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Ill. and was commissioned in 1998.

His first job was officer in charge of plans for 35th Logistics Support Squadron, Misawa AB, Japan and held an officer in charge position at two other locations till Jan, 2001.

Voruz joins Team Hurlburt after serving two years as commander of 100th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Royal Air Force Mildenhall, United Kingdom.

As the ceremony concluded, the Air Commandos bid farewell to Peterson and saluted their new commander.

"I can't express how excited I am to take on such a critical mission," Voruz said. "[Peterson,] you have truly built and outstanding team, I am truly proud, excited and humble to take over such a demanding and critical mission."
