There is a new process for Hurlburt Field motorcycle riders to obtain 1st Special Operations Wing-funded motorcycle safety training effective April 15.

The goal behind the change is to eliminate the "out-of-pocket" expense riders currently incur before getting reimbursed after they complete the training course. The new process is detailed in the seven steps below:

Step 1 Contact the unit/motorcycle safety representative to receive an electronic-version of form SF 182.

Step 2 Have your supervisor, commander and unit training manager electronically sign the form before printing. (All signatures must be electronically made).

Step 3 Print and hand carry the form to education office for a written-signature.

Step 4 Hand carry the form to the Northwest Florida College for enrollment/pre-paid status.

Step 5 Enroll in the motorcycle safety course.

Step 6 Complete the course.

Step 7 After completing the course, return form SF 182 to the education office with a copy of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation completion card.

It is important the rider not sign up for course online until the individual enrolls at the NWFSC counter. Riders must enroll first to be entered into the system.

Paying for motorcycle safety training upfront and seeking reimbursement through 1 SOW Ground Safety office is no longer authorized. Because funding for training will occur with a government purchase card, the account used to reimburse riders who pay out-of-pocket will be eliminated. Riders with outstanding course receipts planning to seek reimbursement are encouraged to do so immediately.

Additionally, U.S. Special Operations Command policy dictates all SOF motorcycle riders must complete the Motorcycle Riding Course at least every three years.

All forms and directions for this process are located on the 1 SOW/Ground Safety SharePoint site under the USR Tools tab.
