The staff of 1st Special Operations Medical Support Squadron held a briefing to announce upgrades in radiology equipment at the Hurlburt Field Medical Clinic on Hurlburt Field, Fla., April 15.

The new updates to the radiology room, now fully operational and available to Hurlburt Airmen and their families, are the first to occur since 2002.

"It's less inconvenient now," said Tech. Sgt. Mia Newmeyer, non-commissioned officer in charge radiology for 1st Special Operations Medical Support Squadron. "We're able to scan more patients, it's an easier commute, and now we can offer more exam availability, along with a decrease in patient wait times."

The new equipment includes a GEXR 650 radiography model which sends images straight from the machine to a computer screen to be examined - making it more efficient than older model's process which involved film. The newer model also cut potential patient exposure to radiation in half during examinations.

"The equipment we had in the past was outdated which limited our scope of care," said Master Sgt. Kristi Binard, diagnostic therapeutic flight chief for 1st Special Operations Medical Support Squadron. "This equipment is up with technology, broadens our scope of care and we can offer more images to the providers which can help in their diagnostics and treatments of patients."
