2012 CFC:There's still time

HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- This year's Combined Federal Campaign ends Nov. 9, and so far Hurlburt Field has raised more than $ 300,000 this year.

Not only have Airmen raised a significant amount of funds, they have done so through several recreational activities hosted for the CFC.

The CFC began with a kickoff event where Airmen learned about CFC charities at the Soundside Club on Sept. 25. There were rows of informational booths with pamphlets displayed and free giveaways to draw in Airmen.

"There is a wide spectrum of charities that anyone can choose from," said Master Sgt. Howard Donald, CFC base project officer. "Every dollar makes an impact!"

About a month later, the CFC held a golf tournament attended by 30 teams comprised of 120 golfers. Events incuded the "longest marshmallow drive" competition, in which golfers competed to see who could drive a marshmallow the furthest, and prize drawings during the 18-round golf tournament.

"It's been great," said Rachel Stanley, aerospace ground equipment flight commander of the 1st Special Operations Equipment Maintenance Squadron and CFC representative for her unit. "This tournament is actually the largest that Hurlburt Field has hosted this year."

For those whose event choices "ran" to other venues, they participated in a Halloween-themed 5k fun run on Oct. 31 sponsored by the CFC. Costumes were encouraged for the run and prizes were awarded to the winners. Runners included vulcans, robots, fairies and galaxy hitchhikers, but the overall winner was the CFC.
