The Hearts Apart organization of the Airman & Family Readiness Center received a check for $2,219 during a presentation at the A&FRC July 11 at Hurlburt Field, Fla.

Volunteers presented the check made up of funds raised from a golf tournament for the Hearts Apart program that took place July 9, at the Gator Lakes Golf Course. 16 teams came together to play golf and raise money for family members of deployed Airmen.

"People participated in this event because they know they're out there for a good cause. They love to take care of our families," said Col. Curt Van de Walle, 1st Special Operations Mission Support Group commander, who helped present the check.

Hearts Apart is a base-wide organization at the A&FRC geared toward the needs and challenges faced by families of deployed members. Events, activities and trips are organized and free of cost for the deployed family members. Donations and fundraises from other organizations are what make the cost free of charge.

"We have events for the deployed families quarterly where we'll feed them first then give the children an activity to do while the parents interact," said Master Sgt. Natalie Sockman, A&FRC NCO In-Charge of personnel and family readiness.
