New housing website eases Airmen's moves Published May 8, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Michelle Vickers 1st Special Operations Wing Public Affairs HURLBURT FIELD, FLA. -- Hurlburt Field's Airmen and their families have a new website to prepare them for the moves that accompany military orders. The website, www.housing.af.mil, provides a single source for housing information both on base and in the local community as well as dormitories. "[There's] everything from pictures and descriptions of base housing and dormitories, to information on area schools," said Roger Robinson, capital asset manager of 1st Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron. "Waiting times for base housing are also listed. In addition, information about the local area is included as well." The website provides a central location for members to find information including important documents like the application for base housing and brochures detailing specific policies. "There's an extensive list of frequently asked questions to help guide the member and family through the move experience," Robinson said. "As you explore each base site, there are base specific questions and answers as well. [This] does a lot to reduce stress by getting an immediate answer to a question." The new Air Force housing website also links service members and families to useful resources like the Defense Travel Management Office that tracks household goods shipments and www.move.mil that walks service members step by step through the moving process. If a housing question is not addressed on the website, the contact information to reach the housing management office is listed. "It provides a very easy method to research your next assignment, and get the answers you need," Robinson said.
