Beginning April 1, all Air Force Materiel Command bases and Hurlburt Field, Fla., join a growing list of Air Force bases that have already implemented a new process to apply for vacant Air Force civilian positions, Air Force Personnel Center officials announced.

All current vacancy announcements for appropriated fund positions can be found on the Air Force Civilian Careers website (www.afciviliancareers.com) and the USAJOBS website (www.usajobs.gov), and applicants will be required to submit a resume on USAJOBS.

Currently, AFMC, Hurlburt Field and Luke AFB civilian employees use the legacy system on the AFPC website to self-nominate for positions. Under the legacy system, hiring officials receive copies of internal candidates' career briefs, rather than resumes. After April 1, civilian employees interested in jobs at Hurlburt Field or AFMC bases will apply via USAJOBS, and hiring officials will receive copies of resumes. All other Air Force bases, except Luke AFB, currently use this process. Luke AFB will continue to use the legacy system until further notice.

"This streamlined approach standardizes the civilian hiring process across most major commands and bases, which will help managers and employees by expediting the hiring process," said Nancy Tackett, a supervisory human resources specialist at AFPC.

According to Tackett, the transition further aligns the Air Force with other agencies in the common effort to meet the president's expectations to simplify and improve the federal hiring process.

Those new to the site and people who have never prepared a job resume will find helpful tips on resume building on the Air Force Civilian Careers and USAJOBS websites, Tackett said. In addition, Airman and Family Readiness Centers also offer resume-building assistance.
