Due to the initial success of the Kerwood Gate opening earlier this week, Hurlburt Field and Okaloosa County personnel are reopening the temporary gate located on U.S. Highway 98, Jan-30 until Feb. 3.

The gate will be open to inbound westbound traffic with DOD ID cards between the hours 6-8 a.m., as well as outbound westbound traffic between the hours of 4-6 p.m. The gate will be closed during all other hours.

This joint effort is one of many solutions base leadership is pursuing to help alleviate congestion on Highway 98 around the base during peak traffic hours.

Hurlburt Field and Okaloosa County are continuing to test the impact of opening an additional gate in this location. The gate opening is a temporary measure that will provide Hurlburt Field assessable data that will determine how to make traffic flow more efficient and less burdensome on the community.
