The Hurlburt Field Combined Federal Campaign commenced the official kick-off of its 50th anniversary at the Soundside Club Sept. 27.

The event allows Air Commando key organizers the opportunity to meet with local-area charities in support of the annual drive, which provides federal employees a responsible and flexible way to donate to local, national and international charities.

"One of the things that is very important to me in my tenure here at Hurlburt is our ability to take care of our Airmen and their families," said Col. James Slife, commander of the 1st Special Operations Wing. "When you look at all of the CFC programs that are represented here today, there are a number of programs which do that very thing."

Slife noted many CFC programs which directly support Hurlburt Field succeed while being solely funded by private donations.

"At the end of the day they're taking care of our Airmen, our families and retirees," said Slife. "That's a very important aspect of the CFC to me. It's a way we can put our money where our mouth is."

Diane Thomas, Vice President for the Okaloosa-Walton Counties CFC spoke to the success of the CFC program these past 50 years in a September press release.

"The success of the Combined Federal Campaign demonstrates the commitment of federal employees to public service," said Thomas. "Not only do federal employees devote their livelihoods to their country, but their generosity has made the CFC one of the most powerful philanthropic forces in the world."

The CFC has raised more than $6 billion since its inception in 1961, and it continues to be one of the world's largest workplace charity programs. For more information about the CFC, visit their web site at http://www.opm.gov/cfc/ or http://www.okaloosa-waltoncfc.org/.
