The Landing Zone officially opened its doors to Air Commandos of all ranks, as a community center Sept. 1.

The new community center will offer expanded hours and will add programs to encompass the entire Hurlburt Field community.

"I'm now looking at what can I provide for programming that is going to be family oriented," said Robert Scott, 1st Special Operations Force Support Squadron, community center director. "It's not to say that I'm getting rid of Airmen programs, I am not. I will still have programs that will lean towards that age group, but that will just be a part of my greater role."

The facility originally opened in 2007 as an Airmen center offering televisions, computers, movies and video games for military members E-4 and below.

"A big thing for me is trying to assist squadrons with [Morale, Welfare, and Recreation] days," said Scott. "As a community center they can come use the place, set up an MWR day, do a pool tournament for your squadron, or a Call of Duty Black Ops game tournament. Come here, use this facility."

The new Landing Zone will kick-off its first major event Sept. 8 with "Football Frenzy," a Hurlburt Club sponsored event showing National Football League games on Sundays and Monday nights. Club members who attend will have the opportunity to register to win a trip to the Super Bowl or tickets to regular season games.
