The 1st Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron is no stranger to winning awards for their excellence; for the past three years they consistently placed in one of the top three spots for the Daedalian Maj. Gen. Warren R. Carter Logistics Readiness award, taking home Bronze for 2010.

First awarded in 1962, the award is given annually by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force to the Air Force base-level unit having the best supply effectiveness record in support of aircraft and weapons missions.

"The award recognizes everyone's hard work, dedication and winning attitudes, which played a significant part in our effort to accomplish the mission and support our customers on a daily basis with pride, enthusiasm and a winning spirit," said Chief Master Sgt. Michael Schmick, 1st SOLRS superintendent. "We are extremely proud of our team and the dedication they put forth on a daily basis."

The 1st SOLRS "excelled" at supporting wing and major command missions, operational deployments, exercises, inspections, environmental and hazardous material programs and crisis operations. In support of Operation Unified Response in Haiti in 2010, the team ordered, shipped and received $800,000 of food and supplies to sustain the deployed men and women of 1st Special Operations Wing who responded just hours after the earthquake.

"I'm extremely proud of the entire squadron; it's a great feeling to see our LRS recognized," said Lt. Col. Steven Gibson, 1st SOLRS commander. "These awards only reinforce what I get to witness every day: the tremendous efforts of our Airmen, civilians and contractors taking care of our customers as part of team Hurlburt."

Prior to winning the 2010 Bronze award, they took Bronze in 2008 and Silver in 2009, so look out 2011.
