1st SOFSS named best of the best Published April 15, 2011 By Staff Sgt. Sarah Martinez 1st Special Operations Wing Public Affairs HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- Is there good food at the chow hall? What kind of aerobics classes are offered at the fitness center? Are there a lot of activities for the children at the youth center? These are questions a new Airman or curious family member may ask when they are moving to another base. However, if you see Hurlburt Field on your orders you can be sure you will be able to take advantage of the best services the Air Force has to offer. What gives the 1st Special Operations Force Support Squadron the right to say they offer the "best services?" Winning the Gen. Curtis E. LeMay Award for 2010 does, and that's exactly what the 1st SOFSS did on April 4, 2011. This award goes to the best large force support squadron in the Air Force. "It's truly an honor to be recognized; the FSS team of dedicated professionals deserves all the credit," said Maj. LaMont Coleman, 1st SOFSS commander. "They make taking care of Team Hurlburt's men, women and their families their number one priority." The 1st SOFSS went above and beyond in the categories of mission accomplishment, leadership, innovation, management and customer focus. The team also excelled in the areas of customer service surveys and "mystery customer" visits from Air Staff members. "I believe this award proves that together we can accomplish so much," said Melanie Lerman, 1st SOFSS marketing director. "I have hopes that this award will further cement the internal relationship our organization shares as we move forward in our mission to take care of people." The 1st SOFSS claimed two more Air Force-level awards: the Force Development Flight Manager of the Year went to Vicky E. Stever, Hurlburt Field's librarian, and the Professional Development Program of the Year went to the 1st SOFSS as a whole. So, next time you are at the gym sweating buckets or at the library reading peacefully, thank a Force Support worker because, according to these awards, without them we would not have the best facilities in the Air Force.
