Florida panhandle hosts Armed Forces Soccer Championship

The Florida panhandle is once again hosting world-class athletes Oct. 19-24 as the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Forces' top soccer players compete for the 2010 Armed Forces Soccer Championship. 

Each team conducted highly competitive training programs and trial camps in order to select the best players to represent their respective services.  However, at the conclusion of the tournament, inter-service rivals will cast aside their differences.  The top players from the tournament will be chosen to represent the US in the International Military Sports Competition. 

All of the games will be held at the Morgan Sports Complex, which is located at 4200 Indian Bayou Trail in Destin.

The game schedule is as follows:

Oct. 19
11:30 a.m.- Opening Ceremony
12 p.m.- Round Robin Match 1: USAF vs. USMC
2 p.m.- Round Robin Match 2: USA vs USN

Oct. 20
5 p.m.- Round Robin Match 3: USN vs. USAF
7 p.m.- Round Robin Match 4: USMC vs. USA

Oct. 21
12 p.m.- Round Robin Match 5: USN vs. USMC
2 p.m.- Round Robin Match 6: USAF vs. USA

Oct. 23
10 a.m.- Semi-final Match 1: Seed 3 vs. Seed 2
12 p.m.- Semi-final Match 2: Seed 1 vs. Seed 4

Oct. 24
2 p.m.- Consolation Match: Loser Match 1 vs. Loser Match 2
4 p.m.- Championship Match: Winner Match 1 vs. Winner Match 2

The awards ceremony will follow the championship match.

The Armed Forces Championships are conducted by the Armed Forces Sports Council for the purpose of promoting understanding, goodwill and competition among the Armed Services.

Armed Forces Sports competitions are conducted for men and women in the sports of basketball, wrestling, bowling, marathon, volleyball, softball, cross country, golf, triathlon, rugby, boxing and soccer.
