"Tip of the Spear" is a weekly spotlight designed to recognize outstanding Airmen for the work they do every day at Hurlburt Field. Airman 1st Class Sterling Williams, 1st Special Operations Support Squadron aviation resource manager, was selected for this week's spotlight.

Name: Airman 1st Class Sterling Williams

Unit: 1st Special Operations Support Squadron

Duty Title: Aviation Resource Manager

Hometown: Perryville, Md.

Date Entered the Air Force: April 1, 2008

Hobbies: Going to the beach, movies, reading and hanging out with friends.

Why did you join the Air Force?
I joined the Air Force to advance my educational goals.

How does your Air Force specialty contribute to the mission?
An aviation resource manager enforces aviation policy for the Air Force. We put regulations into action by verifying that aircrew and parachutists are capable to fly and jump in order to support the mission.

If you were Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force for one day, how would you change the Air Force?
I would change the Air Force by instilling training and values compared to our sister services in the military. I would build pride and strength in the Air Force all the way from an Airman Basic to a General

What's your favorite thing about Hurlburt Field?
Our mission, because I believe we are the tip of the spear for the Air Force. We also have some great people that keep it that way.

What do you like most about being an Airman?
I like the ability to make a difference and develop through learning my job. I also like learning more about the Air Force, because there are not a lot of additional responsibilities to
focus on when compared to an NCO.

What's one thing you wish you were told before joining the Air Force?
I wish I was told about the other Air Force Specialty Codes that were offered.

What motivates you at work?
The fact that I am a part of something huge: the defense of the United States. Completing my work will have great effect on others that I may not necessarily know. It makes me think of my family and friends that I am protecting, too.

Who are your heroes/role models?
I don't have a specific hero, but my role models are all of the people I have met that have the motivation to keep pushing forward, even through the toughest times. I have great respect for those that place themselves in harm's way without hesitation like all of the men and women in the Armed Forces.

Advice to others?
Keep pushing forward, because, although times will get tough, what you do now will determine your fate later. Be your own person and work for your destiny.

Why was he selected?

"Airman Williams dedicates himself to the mission and to his peers with a "never say never" attitude on- and off-duty. He epitomizes the Air Force's core values and is an inspiration to his fellow Airmen to aspire and imitate. He never leaves an Airmen behind."
