Tech Sgt. Robert Ryan Published Aug. 10, 2010 1st Special Operations Wing Public Affairs HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- "Tip of the Spear" is a weekly spotlight designed to recognize outstanding Airmen for the work they do every day at Hurlburt Field. Tech Sgt. Robert Ryan, 14th Weapons Squadron AC-130 Sensor Operator, was selected for this weeks spotlight. Name: Tech. Sgt. Robert Ryan Unit: 14th Weapons Squadron Duty Title: AC-130U Evaluator Sensor Operator Hometown: Clermont, Fla. Date Entered the Air Force: Dec. 2,1992 Hobbies: Boating and spending time with family. Why did I join the AF? I did not want to go straight to college from high school. How does your Air Force specialty contribute to the mission? It is my job to provide the ground forces with close air support and to provide accurate firepower at a moment's notice. If you were Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force for one day, how would you change the Air Force? I would probably talk to the chief of staff into getting rid of Blues Monday. Favorite thing about Hurlburt? Beaches, mission and the people. Like most about being an airman? I like having the ability to make a difference. Wish I was told before joining the AF? Before joining the supply career field, I wish I knew more about the enlisted flying opportunities. Motivates me at work? Knowing that what I do and what decisions I make while flying or instructing a student will directly contribute to the success of the mission. Hero/role model? I would have to say my grandfather; he was an all-around great person. Advice to others? Be the best you can at your job and to take as many college courses that you can. Why he was selected? "Tech. Sgt. Ryan is an outstanding NCO and instructor sensor operator. His professionalism and job excellence is instrumental to the success of our squadron's mission." -Lt. Col. Robert Sagraves
