Hurlburt Commandos and family members gathered Nov. 24, to remember the life of Tech. Sergeant Gregory Todd Payne.

He lost his life in a motorcycle accident Nov. 18.

Sergeant Payne, a 35-year-old Florida native, was an electronic warfare craftsman with the 1st Special Operations Component Maintenance Squadron.

Master Sgt. Sonny Sirois, a close friend and coworker, spoke to Sergeant Payne's family and thanked them for sharing the day, saying it meant a lot to his Air Force family to be able to honor Sergeant Todd's memory together.

"Todd lived his life to the fullest, he was always busy having fun and doing what made him happy," said Sergeant Sirois. "He was also a great NCO, he was the guy who would give you the chance to do it right, rather than punish you for a mistake."

Maj. Rob Bandstra, 1st SOCMS commander, said Sergeant Payne was a national treasure and a true Air Commando.

"To those in blue he was a wingman, leader, and warrior. He answered his nation's call on numerous occasions. During deployments around the world in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, he was prepared to give his life for his country," Major Bandstra said. "He exemplified excellence, integrity, and professionalism."

During the ceremony, Sergeant Payne was posthumously presented the Air Force Commendation Medal for his dedicated service.

Sergeant Payne is survived by his parents David and Sheri Payne, sister Cyndi Payne Chavez, and brother David Payne III.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation in the name of TSgt Todd Payne.
