Being submitted for any award is always a big deal ... especially when it comes to annual awards. It means the hard work and dedication throughout the year has set that person apart from their peers and should be recognized. Winning these awards is quite rare and always well-deserved, but when it happens to a husband and wife team, it is truly a cause for celebration.

Anthony Coomes, Air Force Special Operations Command directorate of communication and information, and Jeanie Coomes, Det. 7, 373rd Training Squadron administrative assistant, recently won the AFSOC Air Force Association Outstanding Civilian Program Manager of the Year Award and the 373rd TRS Civilian of the Year Award, respectively.

"Tony continues to be a no-kidding, go-to guy for us," said Lt. Col. Kenneth Yunevich, AFSOC A6N Networks and Installations division chief. "Just about every major communications activity impacting AFSOC, Hurlburt Field and even Cannon Air Force Base came across his desk for funding and direction. Watching him at work, you'd never know he is a new branch chief in the A6, holding that position for less than a year."

Mrs. Coomes has also made quite the impression at the detachment. According to her senior leadership, her hard work throughout the year has been nothing short of amazing and it is great to see her get recognized.

"It is always amusing to see them compete with each other, but that is exactly what the Air Commando spirit is all about" said Senior Master Sgt. Michael Rickerd, Det. 7, 373rd TRS chief.
