Fueling Hurlburt Field: New pier accepts first barge
Senior Airman Richard Aring (left), 1st Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron, checks the depth of the fuel stored inside a barge while Staff Sgt. Curtis Prather (right), 1st SOLRS, takes a fuel sample at the fuel pier on Hurlburt Field March 6. The newly constructed, $5.3 million fuel pier accepted its first barge March 6. The fuel pier pumps fuel to Hurlburt Field through an underground pipe, which will greatly increase the efficiency of delivering fuel to the base. The old fuel pier was destroyed during Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Jason Epley)
