Four Hurlburt Airmen STEP to next level Published Jan. 18, 2008 By Senior Airman Ali Flisek 1st SOW Public Affairs HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- Four Airmen from Hurlburt Field were given a reason to celebrate Jan. 11 because they were selected for promotion under the Air Force Stripes for Exceptional Performers program. Staff Sgts. Becky McNee, 1st Special Operations Maintenance Operations Squadron, and Kenneth Webb, 1st Special Operations Squadron, received promotions to technical sergeant while Tech. Sgts. Coby True, 1st Special Operations Helicopter Maintenance Squadron, and Herman Lett, 1st Special Operations Logistic Readiness Squadron, were promoted to master sergeant. Col. Brad Webb, 1st Special Operations Wing commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Jeffrey Richardson, 1st SOW command chief, surprised Sergeants True and McNee with their new stripes. "I can't believe they chose me!" Sergeant McNee said. "I'm so thankful to my supervisors for taking the time to write the package." Sergeants Webb and Lett were TDY, so Colonel Webb and Chief Richardson couldn't personally deliver the news, but they made sure the news did in fact reach them. "Sergeant Lett is the kind of leader that will roll up his sleeves and go to work with his Airmen," said Senior Master Sgt. Tommy Weaver, 1st SOLRS vehicle maintenance and equipment accountability flight chief. "He has the courage to look them in the eye and tell them what they need to be doing without fear he will be disliked, and they love him for that -he leads!" The STEP program is a highly visible promotion recognition program used by commanders at all levels to recognize the contributions and accomplishments of outstanding senior airmen, staff sergeants and technical sergeants. Promotions under the program take effect immediately.
