On Jan. 1, the Military Equal Opportunity and civilian Equal Employment Opportunity offices merged, creating the Equal Opportunity Office.

Air Force officials at the operational and tactical levels have wanted to merge these two offices together for years, but it never received the visibility and support needed until now.

Personnel cuts to both EEO and MEO resulted in a collaborative AFSO21 effort which resurfaced the idea and ultimately won secretary of the Air Force approval. The goal of this merger is to make the Air Force EO Program the best in the Department of Defense and an exemplar for the rest of the federal government to follow.

Transformation of the Air Force EO Program consists of two phases: First, transformation of the Air Force EEO/MEO complaints program; and second, transformation of the Air Force affirmative employment, special emphasis and diversity programs.

Through this transition, the Hurlburt EO Staff will maintain its high standards of providing equal opportunity to our military and civilian personnel.
