Stuart Camp 1st SOW Public Affairs HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- Drug use put two Hurlburt Field Airmen in jail following separate courts-martial last week. Senior Airman Johnathan Bush, 1st Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron, and Airman 1st Class Nichole Smith, 1st Special Operations Support Squadron, pleaded guilty to the charges. In a Dec. 6 special court-martial, Airman Smith was convicted of using cocaine and a prescription psychostimulant drug. The judge sentenced her to reduction in grade to airman basic, forfeiture of $500 a month for five months and 165 days confinement in the NAS Jacksonville brig. The following day, Airman Bush was convicted of using cocaine. "I would like to apologize for the actions I've done. I never meant to bring shame to the fire department," Airman Bush said during an unsworn statement during the sentencing phase of the trial. "I don't want anybody else to make the same mistake I made." A panel of four officers sentenced the fire fighter to a reduction in grade to airman basic, 45 days confinement in the NAS Pensacola brig and a bad conduct discharge.
