Sponsoring guests on base requires coordination Published Oct. 26, 2007 By Tech Sgt. Parrish Hollingsworth 1st SOSFS HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- If you are planning a special event on base or would like to sponsor visitors, there are a few steps to keep in mind. Those who have been issued a Department of Defense ID card may authorize visitors onto the base. Contractors assigned sponsor privileges, identified by the word "CON/ESCORT" on the top of their badge, may sponsor visitors on base for official business only. In all cases, the sponsor is responsible for the persons for whom they authorize entry. People wishing to sponsor guests onto the base must be at least 18 years of age. Base personnel sponsoring visitors need not physically respond to the gate. Verification from a sponsor via the local access network from an official e-mail address suffices to authorize entry. E-mail verification is accepted from military members, DOD civil service employees and contractors who have LAN access. Visit requests may be sent to the visitor control center to the 1 SOSFS/VCC Visitor Control Center (Distribution List) on the global e-mail listing. Personnel issued an AF Form 354, Civilian Identification Card, or an AF Form 75, Visitor Pass, are not authorized to sponsor visitors onto the base. Family or military members who do not have access to official e-mail accounts must be at the VCC in person to sponsor a guest. Sponsors of parties, meetings, weddings or other large group activities of 20 or more personnel must provide the 1st Special Operations Security Forces Squadron police services office with a complete guest list at least three duty days prior to the event. This list must indicate an individual who will be responsible for the guests while on the installation as well as the time, date and location of the event. Groups or individuals cannot be given blanket access (i.e. every person attending a garage sale at 30 Elm Street.) Any additions to the list must be coordinated through the police services office. Group visit requests will not be accepted by VCC personnel. A new policy in affect requires all personnel in vehicles requesting entry to the base to have a DOD ID card or a visitor pass. This includes all personnel in the vehicle even if a DOD ID card holder is driving the vehicle. These guidelines are taken directly from the Hurlburt Field ISP 31-101.
