The 2007 Combined Federal Campaign kickoff, an annual fund-raising drive aimed at raising money for thousands of charities throughout the world, was held Wednesday, at the Emerald Coast Conference Center.

Many of the people attending were key workers from Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field. Key workers are individuals from each squadron dedicated to ensuring all military and government employees are contacted and at least 35 percent donate. Also present were more than 40 local CFC charity booths. This was a chance for people to receive more specific information about charity groups and volunteer opportunities.

Col. Dean Clemons, 96th Air Base Wing Commander, is this year's local federal coordinating committee chairman.

"It is my profound privilege and honor to be this year's chairman and lead such a dedicated team," said Colonel Clemons during opening remarks.

Rachel Henry, 16th Special Operations Squadron, was the guest speaker at the event.

"After my husband passed away, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation really helped me and my family. We had given to them every year in the past and it came back to me," said Ms. Henry.
The SOWF provides free college scholarship grants, along with financial aide and educational counseling, to the children of special operations personnel who were killed in operational missions or training accidents.

"We look forward to contributing every year," said Kaye Markland, spouse of 73rd Special Operations Squadron Commander, Tom Markland. "It's a rare opportunity given to change the lives of many."

Last year Hurlburt Field raised $413,000 for the CFC. The entire CFC raised more than $2 million last year. Key workers begin collecting donations on Monday. See your squadron representative to donate.
