Senior Airman Shines as Air Force Weatherman of Year Published May 11, 2007 By Tech. Sgt. Allison Cademartori 1st SOW Public Affairs HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- On April 23, Senior Airman Lawrence Harris II was named the Air Force Weather Airman of the Year for 2006. Competing against peers from across the entire branch, Airman Harris outshined all others to land this prestigious award, entitling him to wear the Air Force Recognition Ribbon. According to his squadron leadership, in a day and age where merely "doing a good job" goes relatively unnoticed, Airman Harris consistently outdoes himself on a daily basis. His Air Force package is dotted with words like, protected, improved, saved Airmen, prevented, guided, self-initiated - each line would singularly warrant recognition by itself, but all together it makes for a deserving Air Force level top performer. Weather is worldwide and deploying is the name of the game. Airman Harris takes it all in stride. He has deployed numerous times in the past four years, taking him all over the world in support of not only Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, but other special operation forces missions as well. "Deploying? That's my favorite part of the job," Airman Harris said. Being at Hurlburt Field means training for the job he would much rather do in a real world environment. Working by himself or with a team, his obvious love of weather and the mission, match his positive attitude with a good-nature and friendly personality. There's little reason to question Airman Harris's success in his career thus far. Airman Harris will be attending Airman Leader-ship School in mid-May and although he doesn't yet have a line number for staff sergeant, he's definitely planning on making the cut the next testing cycle. Airman Harris is 27-years-old with no children and hails from New Orleans, La. His interests include cars and, unsurprisingly, weather. When asked what he likes to do in his spare time, his assistant flight chief, Master Sgt. Gary Stevenson, laughed, "He's a ladies' man - or thinks he's a ladies' man! We tease him all the time." Airman Harris is slated for a permanent change of station to Osan, Korea this summer.
