SOLRS sweeps 2006-2007 intramural basketball championships Published April 13, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Kelly Ogden 1st SOW Public Affairs HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- The 1st Special Operations Logistic Readiness Squadron took the 2006-2007 intramural basketball championship title during the last game of the season April 4. With 23 teams challenging their skills, SOLRS had their hands full. SOLRS team members said motivation was the deciding factor in each of their 10 wins. "Anytime a team has to beat you twice to win a championship, you have a tendency to play soft and lose the first game, but not our team, said Marlon Barrino, 1st SOLRS coach. "They played 40 minutes of in-your-face pressure defense. They never gave the opponent the 'sense' they could win." SOLRS's favorite team memory of the season was their two losses to the 15th Aircraft Maintenance Unit. "Those losses set the path for our championship run and sparked our 'eye on the prize' mentality," Coach Barrino said. "The championship path went through that team, and we knew we could beat them if we played our style. The team believed the championship was bound for the 1 SOLRS and they focused total effort in accomplishing their goal of becoming base champions." With an abundance of competitors, the 1st Special Operations Services Squadron fitness team had their hands full coordinating team practices and games. "Hurlburt Field's Intramural Basketball Season for 2006-2007 was challenging, yet gratifying for all teams that participated," said Tech. Sgt. Lisa Nazario, 1st SOSVS sports director. "We are definitely looking forward to the next season." SOLRS finished the season with a 10-2 record.
