AF adds more deployment areas eligible for GWOT-E medal Published March 2, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Angela Shepherd 1st SOW Public Affairs HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- As the Global War on Terrorism continues to expand and finds new missions in new countries, more Airmen become eligible to wear the GWOT-Expeditionary medal. A new authorization letter was released Feb. 22, expanding the list of geographical areas entitled to the medal. The areas recently added to the authorization list are: Turkey; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Colombia; Azerbaijan; Nigeria; Sierra Leone; Tanzania and Tunisia. Any Airman assigned, attached or mobilized to a unit in these areas on or after Sept. 11, 2001, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom is authorized to be awarded the GWOT-E. The Airman must have served in the area for at least 30 consecutive days or 60 nonconsecutive days. To claim a GWOT-E medal, the Airman must provide a copy of their paid travel voucher and their deployment or TDY orders to either the award and decorations section in the military personnel flight or to their commander's support staff.
