IEA: A Team Hurlburt “no fail” success Published Feb. 2, 2007 By Jamie Haig 1st SOW Public Affairs HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- From the moment they arrived, the Installation Excellence Award Inspection Team members validated that there's something special about Hurlburt Field no-fail people. Their vehicle "assaulted" and taken down; forced out of the bus to don uniforms in the woods; pushed into a humvee and driven to The Soundside and then shoved into zodiacs that raced into the darkness - the Installation Excellence Award inspection team was shown a little of what Hurlburt Field Airmen do every day. Monday morning, five IEA teams consisting of a major general and four colonels, commenced their assessment of the base, visiting different facilities and squadrons that make the 1st Special Operations Wing and Air Force Special Operations Command distinct Air Force wide. The two-day inspection determined whether Hurlburt Field, one of three finalists, is worthy of the honor of being named best installations in the Air Force - again. Monday afternoon, the teams were able to see in the field, first-hand, the Team Hurlburt mission. Following Monday's Dagger night dinner, a celebration of Team Hurlburt's 2006 successes, Maj. Gen. Mark Anderson remarked that the people of Hurlburt have already made a good impression. "It felt so good to be in the dark and see the mission pushed," said General Anderson. "It's nice to see real folks on a real base with a real mission." General Anderson thanked the Airmen and the rest of the Hurlburt workforce for everything they've done to make them feel welcome. "On behalf of my team, we thank you for the tremendous hospitality," General Anderson said. "Thank you for having us." Maj. Gen. Donald Wurster, AFSOC vice commander, sum-med up the base and the mission. "There is more movement in this command now than in its entire history," he said.
