Harlem Ambassadors dance on Commandos Published Jan. 26, 2007 By Jamie Haig 1st SOW Public Affairs HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- The Harlem Ambassadors visited the Aderholt Fitness Center Tuesday night for fun, dancing and games, while thrashing the Commando Varsity Basketball team 79-27. The teams took the court and the Ambassadors scored the first basket within seconds. With impressive ball handling and scoring, the first period ended 16-2 Ambassadors. The second period began with the Ambassadors again ruling the court, but when a Commando missed a basket, Coach S. "Lade Majic" Prophete made them drop to the floor and do push-ups. Then she knocked Commando Briane Rock to the floor and danced around him. When the referee approached, Majic ran into the crowd, hiding between the fans. The second period ended with the Ambassadors still leading the pack with a score of 44-13. Four children were led to the court during half-time. They removed their shoes and stood at court's end. At the sound of the whistle, the children ran to a line, did three sit-ups, ran to the next line, did three push-ups, put on their shoes, retrieved a ball and dribbled back to the basket - first one in wins. Xavier Gibson, 11, won the challenge and received an autographed photo of the team. The third period began with Commando Deangelo Gilliam missing a three-pointer, so Majic made him drop and do push-ups as the game continued. More skillful ball handling, ball stealing and baskets ended it with a score of 65-18 Ambassadors. The fourth period started with Commando James Jacks missing a three-pointer, and Majic announced she was tired of playing basketball and wanted to play football. A ball was tossed onto the court and she had all the Commandos and Ambassadors pair up mid-court and do match-to-match dances - the Commandos mimicking the Ambassadors. Play resumed and Ambassador Hallard Jackson was fouled and walked to the free-throw line. While attempting to throw the first foul shot, Majic snuck a woman from the crowd up behind him to pull his shorts down. After complaining to the referee and making sure Majic and her friend were mid-court, he attempted it again but facing the wrong way and throwing over his head. Majic ended the fourth period with the Commandos doing trick shots and the Ambassadors attempting to do the same.
