Volunteers prepare quilts for suffering youth Published Oct. 20, 2006 By Courtesy A&FRC HURLBURT FIELD, Fla -- Volunteers in the "Quilt Brigade" have been working hard in preparation for Camp Mon-arch this year. Camp Monarch, which will be held on Oct. 21 at Camp Timpoochee in Niceville, Fla., is Covenant Hospice's grief support camps for youth ages 7 to 17 who have a significant loss or terminal illness in their family. Almost 40 percent of the children attending the camp are military dependents. "Our ladies have been making comfort quilts that will no doubt bring comfort to the children and those who made them," said Cyndi Maling, Quilt Brigade organizer. "Since April of 2005 they have made 128 comfort quilts. The Quilt Brigade meets twice a month at the Airman and Family Readiness Center on Saturdays or Sundays. "We are always looking for eager volunteers," said Mrs. Mailing. "No quilting skills are required and some instruction is available."
