HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. --
After losing their first game, the 16th Services Squadron intramural football team showed why they are still the team to beat this year, by beating the POL team 27-14.
SVS jumped out to an early 13-0 lead, but with five seconds left in the first half the POL quarterback hooked up with a receiver to score in the corner of the end zone.
After making the extra point, they were down by six, 13-7.
POL struck first in the second half with an interception when SVS was on the Fuels one-yard line.
On the very next play, a short pass resulted in a long run back as the receiver took the ball all the way home, giving POL their only lead of the game, 14-13.
POLs' lead didn't last long, though.
A good defense and dominating offense helped the SVS team score two more times.
The team scored on a two-point conversion to end the game in a 27-14 victory.
"The guys bounced back from an embarrassing loss (in our first game), and it really showed the character of the team," said Brian Lewis, SVS quarterback and coach. "Now we can get back on track and repeat as base champions."
The win improved SVS's record to 1-1; POL is still looking for their first win with a 0-3 record.
