The Hurlburt Field Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health Compliance Assessment and Management Program assessment will be held Sept. 11 - 15.

ESOHCAMP was formerly referred to as the Environmental Compliance Assessment Management Program.

The purpose of ESOHCAMP is to ascertain the state of the environment, safety and occupational health as it relates to our mission.

The principal difference between ESOHCAMP and ECAMP is that ESOHCAMP will also evaluate safety and occupational health as well as environmental issues.

This year's ESOHCAMP will be "external," which means that Air Force Special Operations Command will oversee the audit.
The success of the 2006 external ESOHCAMP depends on the support of commanders and their unit environmental coordinators, who are the liaison

between Hurlburt Field organizations and the environmental flight.
The 2005 ECAMP was the most positive report to date for Hurlburt Field, and was a direct result of just such cooperation.

The following issues proved to make up 50 percent of the base's negative findings in the 2005 ECAMP: hazardous materials management, other environmental issues, solid waste management and water quality.

To easily avoid any new or a repeat of last year's findings, personnel should look at all past findings so trends can be predicted.

The 16th Civil Engineering Squadron Environmental Flight and Hurlburt UECs are currently conducting courtesy Pre-ESOHCAMP assessments upon request.

There are a total of fifteen different ESOHCAMP protocols with special emphasis being placed on hazardous wastes and hazardous materials:
- Air emissions
- Natural resources
- Cultural resources
- Hazardous materials
- Hazardous waste
- Pollution management
- Solid waste management
- Toxic substance management (asbestos and lead paint)
- Pesticide management
- Other (installation restore, noise, pollution prevention)
- Wastewater management
- Water quality management
- Safety
- Occupational health
- Storage tank management

The inbrief for the 2006 external ESOHCAMP will be 10:30 a.m. Sept. 11, in the wing conference room in Bldg. 90210. The outbrief will be 10:30 a.m. Sept. 15, also in the wing conference room.

The purpose of the inbrief will be to apprise base leadership of the week's activities and the outbrief will briefly describe findings and suggested remedies.

The vast majority of the worst discrepancies were corrected long ago, but there is always room to improve our compliance efforts to ensure that there are never any impacts to the mission due to environmental issues.

The base points of contact for the ESOHCAMP are Craig Overstreet and Capt. Krishna Surajbally, 16th CES. They can be reached at 884-4651.
