Three runs in the first inning were enough Tuesday to propel the 16th Equipment Maintenance Squadron 1 team over the 16th Operations Support Squadron 8-2 on field 2.

John Schreiber went two-for-three at the plate and scored twice to lead the EMS offense.

This was EMS’s third win in a row since the intramural softball season resumed after a one-month break for the operational readiness inspection.

“It (the break) helped us,” said Jerry Graybill, EMS. “We haven’t lost since we came back.”

He explained that the team skidded into the ORI-hiatus, but surged into the playoffs with a 10-8 record.
On the other side of the diamond, OSS finished with a 6-11 record expecting Tuesday’s game to be its last this season.

“It’s been a fun year,” said Brian Chatman, OSS second baseman. Players moving away or deploying ravaged the team with a 2-3 record early on.

“We’ve had a good team, but a lot of turnover broke our continuity,” he said.

OSS sprayed 13 hits in the seven-inning game. EMS pounded out 18 hits, most in the first four innings when they tallied their eight runs.
