Hurlburt Field officials will allow use of the Kerwood Gate for outbound traffic only starting Nov. 25.

The gate is scheduled to be open 3:30 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

"The intent of opening the Kerwood Gate is to eliminate the bottle-necking at the front gate during the evening rush," said Lt. Col. Jason Loschinskey, 1st Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron commander.

The gate has a traffic light which will accommodate cars leaving base turning west toward Navarre and east toward Fort Walton Beach. The intent is to allow people an alternative exit point from the base to relieve congestion at the Highway 98 and Cody Avenue intersection.

"The gate will be manned by security forces members to deny and authorize entry, as well as to assist with traffic control measures," said Charles Spence, 1st Special Operations Security Forces Squadron chief of plans and programs.
