This week's destination is: Cinema Plus, located at 174 Miracle Strip Pkwy in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Instead of going out to eat then seeing a movie after, which can be costly, Airmen and their families can experience a twist to the "normal" movie night at Cinema Plus. It truly allows customers dinner and a movie, all at the same time.

Built in 1944 by John Tringes after he borrowed $700 from his father, the theater is a historical landmark originally named Tringes Theater. Before the theater was built, movies were shown on an open-air screen on top of the Temple Mound across the street, according to the Heritage Walk booklet made by the city of Fort Walton Beach and the Heritage Park and Cultural Center.

The theater has a vintage feel inside and out: There is only one screen in the theater, with tables arranged on an upper and lower deck in front of the screen as well as balcony seating, a design originating from its early construction.

"When you visit, do not expect a modern-theater style venue or you will be disappointed; the floors are not level, the carpets are worn, the staircase leading to the balcony is narrow and the steps creak, but all of this adds to the character of the building," said Joanne B., who visits the theater every winter with her husband. "The comfortable, cozy atmosphere breathes historic charm allowing you to truly relax while you enjoy a great movie. The family style setting that the owners provide at this location actually works!"

The cinema offers an assortment of appetizers, pizzas, sub sandwiches and candy. Soft drinks, beer and wine are also available.

"Where else can you eat pizza, popcorn and other stuff while watching a movie for a great price," said Mary C. "What charm in this old movie theater. Everyone should do it at least one time."

Cinema Plus also supports the local military. The original owner once allowed young Airmen to "charge it" and pay him on pay day. Now-a-days, they offer a military discount.

Ticket prices are $4 adults and $3 for children, seniors and military. All tickets are $2 Mondays and Wednesdays.

Cinema Plus begins showing movies daily at 7 p.m. To find out what movie is playing, call (850) 302-0129 or visit http://www.cinemaplusinc.net/.
