The 19th Special Operations Squadron served the 801st Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron 25-23, 23-25 and15-12 during the final matchup of the Intramural Volleyball Tournament here Sept. 20.

The victory in the weeklong tournament earned the 19th SOS a champiopship trophy, tournament t-shirts, and the "2013 Hurlburt Volleyball Champs" title.

"It was a great game," said Tech. Sgt. William Jackson, the 1st Special Operation Force Support Squadron sports director. "The 19th SOS put on a great show last year in a very close loss to [Air Force Special Operations Command], so they had a lot of motivation to win this year."

Players from the 19th SOS attribute their victory to factors like teamwork and being able to quickly adapt to the opposing team's change in players. Some said superstition made the difference.

"It was the socks," said Stephen Lanzola, 19th SOS team captain. "We agreed on wearing crazy colors during the tournament and that brought us closer together during the games."

Airmen can see teamwork, cohesiveness and networking in action just by watching teams play intramural sports, Jackson said.

"It's a chance to see leadership and supervisors in a different light outside of work," he said.
