Corvias Military Living— out with the old, in with the new

HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. --  Base housing residents signed leases with Corvias Military Living at the 319th Special Operations Squadron auditorium, Aug. 19-21, here.

Corvias Military Living is a privatized housing company who is taking over base housing with a five-year plan to tear down the existing homes and rebuild all new houses on base.

"We start off by building houses in an area that currently have none," said Brandon Masters, communications manager for Corvias. "Then we move one street of residents into those newly constructed homes and then proceed to demolish old homes and build new homes, so on and so forth."

Corvias officially takes over Sept. 1, and plans to take the rent out via allotment from the resident's basic allowance for housing. For couples who both serve in the military, the higher ranking service member's BAH is used.

"It'd be the same if we lived off base and pay BAH," said Senior Airman Kendal Jackson, AC-130U Spooky crew chief for the 1st Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. "It just makes it easier that Corvias is doing it for us, plus we get a new house out of it."

Rent will include all utilities, maintenance, renter's insurance and the construction of the new homes. Corvias will be taking care or the streets, community center and all yard maintenance.

The first of new homes are scheduled to be delivered in the latter part of 2014, and the final to be in 2018.
