Highway 98 construction near the Cody Avenue intersection will begin this week.

Here's what you can expect in the next few months:

· Construction of a temporary left turn lane in the U.S. 98 westbound median to enable left turns onto Champaign Street.
· Grading work in the U.S. 98 median.
· Constructing temporary travel lanes in the median.
· Clearing and grubbing along the outside portion of the roadway.

Expect night-time lane closures: In an effort to minimize traffic impacts, lane closures on U.S. 98 will be restricted to 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. when traffic demand is lowest.

When construction traffic dictates, the new Kerwood Gate will open to alleviate congestion, and the base will be notified promptly. Until further notice, the gate will remain closed, and the new traffic light will continue flashing yellow.

Final completion of the project is scheduled for late 2014.
